Scouting in Central Indiana
Crossroads of America Council is the largest Scout Council in central Indiana. I was responsible for the development, preparation, and execution of marketing collateral to clearly and consistently tell the story of Scouting to members, leaders, donors, supports and the general public.
As the team’s photographer/videographer, I captured special moments throughout the year at summer camp, fundraisers, adult training events utilized in many of the materials shown below.

The Summer Camp Experience
Summer camp is where the adventure of Scouting takes place, and what Scouts look forward to all year long. I created postcards, videos, camp guides, social media promotions to get as many families as possible to sign-up and enjoy the summer camp experience. Along with these materials, unit leaders were provided with a detailed “Program Catalog”, covering FAQ’s, camp details, council contacts, and more. During the summer, I captured photos and videos at each camp that were utilized in the following year’s marketing materials.
Scouting’s Impact
Sharing Scouting’s positive impact on families is key to securing gifts to the organization and increasing membership. One of the ways this was done was through testimonials shared on social media, email campaigns, and website publications. The campaigns consisted of photos of a featured Scout, a video interview of the Scout with their family, and a quote from the interview.
Supporting the Brand
Well-branded documents highlighting the value of the council and adventure of Scouting were an important piece of a staff member’s toolkit at any time of the year. Documents featuring the Scout mission, photos from camp, annual report metrics, and more were important tools for the development team to cultivate relationships in the community and secure gifts to the organization. Fliers, social media promotions, and digital ads were utilized by staff and the council’s members during the annual recruitment season.
For smaller projects not requiring focused marketing support, staff had access to Canva where I had built out brand assets, font kits, and a variety of design templates. These templates included fliers, brochures, and social media promos.
